Dental Implants Q&A

Why replace missing teeth?

Your teeth are directly anchored into your bone tissue. Every time you bite down or place any pressure on your teeth, you’re simultaneously stimulating the bone.

When you lose one or more of your natural teeth, that stimulation ends. The result can be bone resorption, otherwise known as bone loss, a serious medical condition that can weaken surrounding teeth and create a caved-in facial appearance.

That's why it's so important to replace missing teeth. These implants are secure in their place, so you won’t have to worry about them falling out. Unlike dentures or bridgework, dental implants also look and mimic natural teeth, stimulating your bone tissue preventing from resorption to sustain a beautiful and healthy smile.

Does Dr. Pan provide dental implants?

Dr. Pan can assist you on your path to a permanent tooth replacement option. If you're a good candidate for dental implant surgery, Dr. Pan can refer you to a trusted colleague who can complete that procedure.

As your general dentist, Dr. Pan works to ensure your gum tissue adjusts properly to your new customized implant restoration. He also makes routine checks to make sure that your implant isn’t placing undue pressure on your opposing teeth.

What’s involved in restoring a dental implant?

Dental implants are first placed into your natural bone tissue.  After your implant is integrated into the bone, the crown portion of your implant is ready to be restored.

Dr. Pan places a transfer pin called coping into the implant before taking an impression of your teeth and bite. That information is sent to the lab that creates your new custom crown. When it arrives, you’ll return to allow Dr. Pan to install the crown and adjust for proper fitting.
